MUNICIPAL ELECTRONIC RECYCLING

What Is Municipal Electronic Recycling?

When recycling goes to the municipal recycling facility, the facility sorts and separates it. Then they process the waste before it is sent to manufacturers who use recycled materials to make new products.

Most communities have a municipal recycling program for certain materials, and the waste can be combined into one stream or separated into multiple streams. For example, you can put all of your municipal recycling items in one bin, or you may need to separate plastic from paper/cardboard. Typically, a municipal recycling vehicle will pick up this recycling curbside and deliver it to the facility. Items handled by traditional municipal recycling include:

Paper, Plastic, Cardboard, Metals, Glass, Wood

Each community has different guidelines on what is acceptable for municipal recycling. Make sure to check your local city and facility rules for more information on how to properly follow municipal recycling rules and ensure that your recyclable waste is properly disposed of.

Each year, 20 to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed around the world. Unfortunately, only 12.5% of that e-waste is currently recycled. While we still struggle with education on how to properly recycle, it getting easier to recycle common household materials.

But what about electronics?

Luckily, Fusion Green Technology uses the highest industry standards to recycle electronic waste. Through e-waste recycling, we can separate e-waste into proper categories for processing back into the manufacturing stream.

How To Recycle  Electronics

Municipal recycling is a great service that helps us recycle common household materials and packaging. However, you cannot recycle electronic devices through municipal recycling. Electronic devices contain some toxic materials, as well as ones like copper, gold, and silver. To prevent toxins from ending up in landfills, and to preserve those precious metals, you must properly recycle electronic waste through a dedicated e-waste recycling center.

In addition to following municipal recycling, you should make sure to recycle e-waste because it:

Keeps electronics out of landfills.
Saves the resources it takes to make new electronics
Preserves valuable materials, allowing them to be reused in new products.
Keeps toxins out of landfills and the environment.
Cut down on waste.
